Phonics N Phonetics (Pronunciation Course) ~ Level 3 ~

Course Objectives   The course is designed to create phonological awareness in children (10 years old and above) and to teach them the sounds that are found in the English language. Children will be exposed to the phonetic symbols based on the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and be taught to associate the sounds with the symbols. This course will also incorporate phonic rules to aid spelling and improve reading and pronunciation skills. Students would gain a greater confidence in language learning after having grasped the fundamentals of pronunciation. Course Outline   Phonics is the association of sounds with letters. Phonic rules are useful for sounding out unfamiliar words. Phonetic symbols are those symbols found in dictionaries to assist pronunciation of the words. In this course students will learn to associate sounds with phonetic symbols and read phonetic transcriptions in dictionaries. This programme uses a holistic approach, combining listening, speaking, reading and writing to teach the sounds of English and how they occur in the English language. Teaching Methodology   Each lesson is packed with activities to help reinforce the sounds learnt. These activities use multi-sensory methods to help children recognize the sounds in new vocabulary learnt and to understand how these sounds integrate with grammar usage and normal daily speaking activities.
