Phonics and Phonetics for Adults ~ Exploring the Sounds of English ~ (Instruction in Mandarin)

Course Objectives   The course is designed to create phonological awareness in adults and to study how speech sounds in English are made. This course will teach sounds using phonetic symbols based on the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). It also incorporates phonic rules to aid spelling and improve reading and pronunciation skills. Those who have undergone this course will be able to use this knowledge to pronounce any word they are unsure of with the help of dictionary. It will also remove the frustration and failure for not being able to read, spell and pronounce correctly. Course Outline   Phonics is the association of sounds with letters. Phonic rules are useful for sounding out unfamiliar words. Phonetic symbols are those symbols found in dictionaries to assist pronunciation of the words. In this course students will first undergo training in speech sounds and understand how speech sounds are produced. After mastering the sounds, they will learn how intonation, stress and rhythm affect speech and the meaning conveyed. Teaching Methodology   Teachers use lively, interactive methods to teach. Pair work, group work and presentation are used in class as well as games and activities to reinforce learning. Our Teachers   Our teachers are trained and qualified.
